How DermatologistOnCall works:
Online visits through DermatologistOnCall are a quick, simple way to receive clinical care. No appointment is needed and there is no video visit to schedule. Submit your information to a board-certified dermatologist through our portal for expert care when and where you need it most.
- Create an account.
- Select a dermatologist and pharmacy.
- Submit a brief medical history and provide details about your skin, hair, or nail concern.
- Upload 2 - 9 photos of your condition.
- Review your visit. Your visit is asynchronous. There will be no live interaction.
- Input your insurance information. Your copay will be displayed.
- Pay your balance, if any, with your credit card, debit card, or HSA/FSA account.
- Your board-certified dermatologist will review your information and respond with a diagnosis and treatment plan within 48 hours.
- If medications are prescribed, they will be available for pickup at the pharmacy you selected.
- Questions or concerns? Contact your dermatologist through the secure messaging system in our platform for 30 days after your visit is complete.
Most visits are completed in less than 24 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose my dermatologist?
Yes! You may select any online doctor or mid-level practitioner in our network licensed to practice in your state.
If you are currently seeing a dermatologist who is on our network, you may select that doctor—or pick someone new. If you choose "no preference," you will be treated by the next available provider.
Do I need a video call with my dermatologist?
It depends on the state where you live and its regulations. Most states do not require face-to-face interaction. Our system will let you know if this is required and provide instructions on initiating the video call to complete your online visit.
Video calls are only available in states in which they are required. You will still need to provide all medical information through the online portal, including uploading photos of the affected area.
What information do I need to provide?
Your online dermatologist will need much of the same information needed for an in-office appointment. Our online portal will prompt you to answer questions about your medical history related to your current dermatologic concern, indicate your dermatologist and pharmacy preferences, and submit photos of the affected area.
When submitting your visit, include as much information about your condition and concerns as possible. Your dermatologist will base all diagnosis and treatment decisions on the medical information you share during your visit.
Is my information safe and secure?
DermatologistOnCall adheres to the national patient information security standards found in both HIPAA and HITECH regulations, including sharing information with any accepted insurance providers. Your photos, personal and medical information, or diagnosis will never be made public.
How do I know my dermatologist will be able to treat my condition online?
Our board-certified dermatologists are trained to diagnose and treat over 3,000 medical conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails just as they would in-office.
Can my online dermatologist treat more than one condition at a time?
No. Each visit covers the review, diagnosis, and treatment plan for one condition of the skin, hair, or nails.
How long does it take to receive a response after I submit my case?
Your online dermatologist will typically respond within 24 hours through the DermatologistOnCall portal. If you select a specific dermatologist, they may not be available to provide treatment immediately. If so, you may choose another provider or wait for your preferred doctor to respond. Our providers respond to all visits within 48 hours.
All patient and provider communication occurs inside the DermatologistOnCall online portal. You should receive notifications of new messages or progress updates by email or text (if opted in).
What can I expect to receive from my online visit?
Your board-certified dermatologist will review your case and provide a diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. If necessary, your doctor will ask for additional information (or new photos). Once completed, you will be notified by email or text that your plan is available. You may access it at any time through our secure portal. Additionally, you may print your records or fax them to your primary care physician through our portal.
Prescriptions are electronically automatically sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
Can my online dermatologist prescribe medication?
Yes! If your doctor determines your condition will benefit from a prescribed medication, it will be included in your treatment plan. The order will be electronically sent to your selected pharmacy.
How do I contact my dermatologist after I submit my visit?
You can contact your online dermatologist through the HIPAA-secure messaging tool inside the DermatologistOnCall portal.
DermatologistOnCall visits are not affiliated with our providers' physical offices. Your visit is specific to DermatologistOnCall. If you are experiencing issues, we're here to help! Please contact customer support at support@dermatologistoncall.com.
What if I have additional questions for my dermatologist after I submit my online visit?
You may submit a message to your online dermatologist for up to 30 days after your visit through the portal if you have additional questions or comments.
What if the doctor wants me to come in for an in-office visit (i.e., biopsy or diagnostic procedure)?
Can a minor (under age 18) use the platform?
Yes, but the patient will need a surrogate—a parent or legal guardian—to provide consent, oversee the online dermatology visit, and handle the payment.
What if the patient is a family member over 18 who needs assistance?
We make online dermatology visits available to patients who cannot care for themselves or are uncomfortable using technology by enabling a surrogate to assist with virtual care. A surrogate is a contact legally authorized to act on behalf of a patient. All that is required to support a loved one on the platform is some basic information:
- the surrogate's relationship with the patient
- the surrogate's contact information
- the patient's name
- the surrogate's electronic signature to attest that the surrogate is legally authorized to act on the patient's behalf.
