You don't have to.

No scheduling.
No appointments.
Dermatology care, when and where you need it.
DermatologistOnCall connects patients and board-certified dermatologists through our asynchronous portal. Because there's no live interaction with your dermatologist, you can submit your visit whenever it fits your schedule.
- Receive the same clinical care you'd expect in a dermatologist's office without making an appointment.
- Pick up any prescriptions from your pharmacy, as you would after any other doctor's appointment.
- Patients of all ages can use DermatologistOnCall. A surrogate function is available for submitting visits for those under age 18 or needing additional help.
- Communicate with your dermatologist for 30 days after your visit is completed.
- Continue to select your DermatologistOnCall Online Dermatologist for any future visits.
Asynchronous dermatology visits are equally, if not more effective than synchronous (video) visits.2

Select the pharmacy that works for you.
Pick-up or mail-order?
National chain or local store?
The choice is yours with DermatologistOnCall.
After you've chosen your dermatologist, you'll be prompted to select a pharmacy. If you're prescribed any medications during your visit, the order will be sent to this pharmacy for fulfillment instantly and electronically.
DermatologistOnCall providers prescribe the same generic and brand-name medications you would expect from a traditional dermatology practice.
In addition, they may recommend over-the-counter products like facewash, sunscreen, or shampoo to complete your treatment plan.

Stay in Touch
Your visit remains open for 30 days after you receive your treatment plan. If you have questions about your medications or need additional advice about your condition, you can message your online dermatologist inside our HIPAA-secure portal.
Rest assured, we're still here for you, even after the 30-day window is closed. Whether you need follow-up care for an ongoing condition or need treatment for a new issue, you can always start a new visit with your original dermatologist.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose my dermatologist?
Yes! You may select any online doctor or mid-level practitioner in our network licensed to practice in your state.
If you are currently seeing a dermatologist who is on our network, you may select that doctor—or pick someone new. If you choose "no preference," you will be treated by the next available provider.
Do I need a video call with my dermatologist?
It depends on the state where you live and its regulations. Most states do not require face-to-face interaction. Our system will let you know if this is required and provide instructions on initiating the video call to complete your online visit.
Video calls are only available in states in which they are required. You will still need to provide all medical information through the online portal, including uploading photos of the affected area.
What information do I need to provide?
Your online dermatologist will need much of the same information needed for an in-office appointment. Our online portal will prompt you to answer questions about your medical history related to your current dermatologic concern, indicate your dermatologist and pharmacy preferences, and submit photos of the affected area.
When submitting your visit, include as much information about your condition and concerns as possible. Your dermatologist will base all diagnosis and treatment decisions on the medical information you share during your visit.
Is my information safe and secure?
DermatologistOnCall adheres to the national patient information security standards found in both HIPAA and HITECH regulations, including sharing information with any accepted insurance providers. Your photos, personal and medical information, or diagnosis will never be made public.
How do I know my dermatologist will be able to treat my condition online?
Our board-certified dermatologists are trained to diagnose and treat over 3,000 medical conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails just as they would in-office.
Can my online dermatologist treat more than one condition at a time?
No. Each visit covers the review, diagnosis, and treatment plan for one condition of the skin, hair, or nails.
How long does it take to receive a response after I submit my case?
Your online dermatologist will typically respond within 24 hours through the DermatologistOnCall portal. If you select a specific dermatologist, they may not be available to provide treatment immediately. If so, you may choose another provider or wait for your preferred doctor to respond. Our providers respond to all visits within 48 hours.
All patient and provider communication occurs inside the DermatologistOnCall online portal. You should receive notifications of new messages or progress updates by email or text (if opted in).
What can I expect to receive from my online visit?
Your board-certified dermatologist will review your case and provide a diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. If necessary, your doctor will ask for additional information (or new photos). Once completed, you will be notified by email or text that your plan is available. You may access it at any time through our secure portal. Additionally, you may print your records or fax them to your primary care physician through our portal.
Prescriptions are electronically automatically sent to the pharmacy of your choice.
Can my online dermatologist prescribe medication?
Yes! If your doctor determines your condition will benefit from a prescribed medication, it will be included in your treatment plan. The order will be electronically sent to your selected pharmacy.
How do I contact my dermatologist after I submit my visit?
You can contact your online dermatologist through the HIPAA-secure messaging tool inside the DermatologistOnCall portal.
DermatologistOnCall visits are not affiliated with our providers' physical offices. Your visit is specific to DermatologistOnCall. If you are experiencing issues, we're here to help! Please contact customer support at support@dermatologistoncall.com.
What if I have additional questions for my dermatologist after I submit my online visit?
You may submit a message to your online dermatologist for up to 30 days after your visit through the portal if you have additional questions or comments.
What if the doctor wants me to come in for an in-office visit (i.e., biopsy or diagnostic procedure)?
Can a minor (under age 18) use the platform?
Yes, but the patient will need a surrogate—a parent or legal guardian—to provide consent, oversee the online dermatology visit, and handle the payment.
What if the patient is a family member over 18 who needs assistance?
We make online dermatology visits available to patients who cannot care for themselves or are uncomfortable using technology by enabling a surrogate to assist with virtual care. A surrogate is a contact legally authorized to act on behalf of a patient. All that is required to support a loved one on the platform is some basic information:
- the surrogate's relationship with the patient
- the surrogate's contact information
- the patient's name
- the surrogate's electronic signature to attest that the surrogate is legally authorized to act on the patient's behalf.
