DermatologistOnCall providers are able to provide more comprehensive virtual care for their patients’ suspicious lesions using the DermTech Melanoma Test. This non-invasive test detects genomic markers, LINC and PRAME, associated with melanoma to identify high-risk lesions at their earliest stages. SmartStickers are used to lift, store, and preserve genomic material from the surface of the skin for lab testing. The DermTech Melanoma Test has a sensitivity rate of >99% and is clinically proven to help you identify high-risk melanocytic lesions early.

Your partner in testing

Certified clinicians observe patients as they use the DermTech Test Kit.

Once ordered, the clinician will guide your patient through the sample collection via video interaction to ensure proper administration. When the results are received, they will be forwarded to you for review and completion of the treatment plan.

Qualifying a patient

The DermTech Melanoma test kit is available to patients over age 18 who present with lesions suspected to be melanocytic. 

Conditions for approval:
  • Meets one or more ABCDE criteria
  • Diameter > 5 mm
  • Skin is intact (non-ulcerated or non-bleeding)
  • No palms of hands, nails, soles of feet, or mucous membranes.  
  • Not located in areas of psoriasis, eczema, or similar skin conditions
  • No scar tissue
  • Not previously biopsied
  • Has not been previously diagnosed as melanoma or for which the clinical suspicion is sufficiently high that the treating clinician believes melanoma is more likely diagnosed than not. 

All lesions are reviewed by our certified clinician before a test kit is ordered to ensure the site qualifies and can be tested. If a patient does not qualify, you will be notified and should refer the patient to in-person care immediately.

DermTech Melanoma Test may have an additional fee that will be handled by DermTech’s Billing Concierge. Insurance benefits may be applied to the DermTech Melanoma Test.

Most commercially insured patients pay less than $100 per DermTech Melanoma Test.

Uninsured/Financial Assistance - DermTech Billing Concierge will help the patient with financial assistance.
